10 Bad Habits to Overcome Before Becoming an Entrepreneur

10 Bad Habits to Overcome Before Becoming an Entrepreneur

Habits is one feature every human has, they are the ways our mind behave in relation to certain situations or environments.
Habits possessed by living things especially humans are usually in two forms, they could be good habits or bad one’s (some we are not proud of). They may make us productive in our daily commitments or make us perform poorly either ways, we all have them.

However, when we intend to take up the status of an entrepreneur, we are now people who will have access to certain amount of influence either by means of people who work under/partner with in our businesses and since we have such status, we are also a kind of freedom that allows us carry out our ideas and solutions we think that is right but remembering that we are more accountable for the decisions and habits we carry out among our cooperate environment. Our actions will not only have a direct impact on our businesses but all become a model for those trailing us in our work place and this imprints on the image of our organization.

Before conforming fully to an entrepreneur, be sure to eliminate this 10 negative work habits as they may be detrimental to you:

  • Planning to fail by not planning (day, week or even month).

If you are working in a place where time is not necessarily a factor you can get away with this, but as an entrepreneur, if you have not set goals and ways you need to achieve those goals, by creating time to fulfil different tasks each day or each week and setting them according to your scale of preference, then you are heading towards the wrong direction. Certain app service like Wrike could help.

  • Late replies.

Immediate response is a good thing (Not that you should respond in the heat of emotions), but there is no problem in wanting to respond to mails quickly. However responding to mails the entire day is not a good idea especially in a start-up. So plan your tasks and engagements so you know how to surf through your day and not spend the entire day with response. The one exceptions are sales representatives who their replies may definitely land a sale.

  • Communicating Inefficiently.

Research has shown that the inability to communicate effectively could fault any association, especially one with various people from various background. Now defective communication is bad for business but for emerging businesses this could kill the business at such an early stage as it would make the business look unprofessional especially if this affects you potential customers. So take preventing measures by finding out your weak points and ways to make them better and maintain any good communication skill you may have.

  • Routine.

This could be quiet productive especially for daily tasks otherwise put them in the trash. You should have in mind that become stiff in a routine can be damaging to the business in the future, especially when changes are needed.

  • Workaholics.

It seems good working tirelessly to grow your new business as you assume now is the time to work rest comes after there is a very visible growth. Great, but working without rest can bring stress to you mind and hence, productivity is deformed. Put in mind that as an entrepreneur, great work taking the whole span of 5 hours is better than a good whole day’s work. So don’t over work for less result.

  • Arriving late.

Coming to work late could be overlooked if all you have to do is responding to some personal emails and making a cup of coffee. But, when it comes to meeting prospective clients and important board meetings this could be a very bad thing, as it could destroy your image to people who work under you and your clients. So when you say you will be there at a particular time be there if you are held up in traffic call in this will speak well of you. But don’t make it a habit of calling in say you will come in late.

  • Procrastinating on Jobs

If there is one killer disease of business and one’s integrity, this is it. If you can’t do something delegate it to someone reliable don’t put it on your desk for weeks after the due date hoping to do it the next day.

  • Delaying hard decisions.

As an entrepreneur there are decisions you are bound to make and it is important you carry them out with due diligence but do not delay in carrying them out because you have to be at one point and can never be on the fence especially for decisions that concern the growth of your business. So decide already.

  • NO.

This word, although been of two letters are usually the most difficult for some people to say. As an entrepreneur who knows that decisions are very important for the growth of your business, you should learn to say no to request that may affect your business negatively.

  • Multitasking.
Although this may sound as a good idea, as an entrepreneur, you must learn to put utmost focus in every endeavor you carryout. In multitasking, you may end up missing those important details which are of great disadvantage and of diverse effects. Remember the saying “The devil is in the detail”.

With these bad habits addressed you can go ahead to becoming an entrepreneur.
